KETOCONAZOLE – CREAM (kee-toe-CON-uh-zole)

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Nizoral

USES: This medication is used to treat a fungal skin infection.

HOW TO USE THIS MEDICATION: Clean and dry the affected area before applying the medication. To apply, gently massage a small amount of the medication to the affected area and surrounding skin. Continue to use the medication as prescribed for the full time prescribed. Stopping therapy too early may not clear the infection causing it to return. Cover with a bandage only if instructed to do so by your doctor. It may take one week before any improvement is seen. If no improvement is seen after 2 – 4 weeks, consult your doctor. Another medication may be necessary.

SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause burning, stinging or redness when first applied to the skin. This should disappear in a few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Be sure your doctor knows your medical history, especially of: allergies. This medication should be used cautiously during pregnancy only if clearly needed. This medication may appear in breast milk. Consult with your doctor before breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this cream.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: other skin products. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed.

NOTES: This medication is prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it for another infection or share it with someone else. Another infection later on may require a different medicine.

MISSED DOSE: Apply the missed dose as soon as possible but not if it is almost time for the next dose. If it is time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule.

STORAGE: Store cream at room temperature. Keep away from moisture and sunlight. Do not freeze.

USES: Tamoxifen is a drug that blocks the action of the hormone estrogen. It is used in the treatment of breast cancer in women.

HOW TO TAKE THIS MEDICATION: Take this drug by mouth exactly as prescribed for the full treatment period.

SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, hot flashes, weight gain or headache may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Report promptly abnormal vaginal bleeding or irregular periods, vaginal discharge, groin pain or vision changes. Unlikely but report promptly vomiting or rash. Very unlikely but report promptly dark urine or yellowing eyes and skin, easy bruising, persistent sore throat, fever, mental/mood changes, trouble breathing, unusual tiredness, leg pain or swelling. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of eye problems, blood disorders, cancers, liver disease or any allergies. Use reliable birth control (e.g., proven barrier methods) during treatment and for at least two months after treatment. Consult your doctor or pharmacist. This drug is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor before using this drug. It is not known if this drug is excreted into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using this drug is not recommended. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include shakiness and dizziness.

NOTES: Keep all doctor and lab visits because it is important you have your progress monitored.

MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not ‘double-up’ the dose to catch up.

STORAGE: Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture.
