Aclasta drug description and what Aclasta is used to treat

Aclasta is the brand name of the generic drug Zoledronate or Zoledronic acid. The medication belongs to a group of drugs known as biphosphonates. These function by preventing the release of bone calcium. It is indicated for the treatment of Paget’s disease and osteoporosis commonly experienced by postmenopausal women. It can also be used for other indications and purposes as prescribed by the doctor. Do not use it without the doctor’s consent.

The drug cannot be used by patients who have known allergies to zoledronic acid and similar medications. These include tiludronate, Risedronate, pamidronate, ibandronate, etidronate, and alendronate. It cannot be used by patients who are planning to be pregnant, are pregnant, or are nursing their babies. Conditions that contraindicate the use of the medication include kidney disease, bone cancer, intestine surgery, malabsorption syndrome, thyroid or parathyroid disorders, and aspirin-sensitive asthma. Use it exactly as prescribed. Some patients who have used medications similar to Aclasta’s composition have reported complications such as osteonecrosis of the jaw. The symptoms include slow healing, gum infection, loose teeth, numbness, swelling, and jaw pain. When these are experienced, stop taking the medication and immediately report the condition to the doctor.

Aclasta is given as an injection. This requires administration of the medication within a clinic or hospital setting, by a competent intravenous therapist. It must be administered through a vein, and given slowly through an infusion. It may take around 15 minutes for the procedure to finish. Before the injection, patients may drink around 2 glasses of water to prevent dehydration. The doctor may also prescribe consumption of a vitamin D or a calcium supplement during therapy. Because this is given intravenously, the patient’s blood must be checked regularly to see the potential of side effects or effects on kidney function. Make sure not to miss scheduled appointments with the doctor for faster recovery.
