Axert drug description and what Axert is used to treat
Axert is a triptan or an abortive medication discovered and developed especially for treatment of migraine headache. This is not intended for use in pains and headaches caused by other medical conditions other than migraine. However, it relieves other symptoms associated with migraine such as nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light (photophobia) and sensitivity to sound (phonophobia). It is the only oral triptan medicine approved in the USA that can be administered to adolescent from 12 to 17 years of age afflicted with migraine. It works by narrowing down or constricting the protective brain membranes or meningeal arteries.
This medication should not be given to patients allergic to Almotriptan, or those who have coronary heart disease, angina (chest pain), blood circulation problems, heart attack or stroke history, uncontrolled high blood pressure; ischemic bowel disease, headache caused by other medical conditions, liver and kidney disease.
