Some babies have long crying spells and cannot be easily comforted. This excessive crying or fussiness is sometimes called "colic" and may be due to the protein in the formula. While sensitivity to the protein in both milk-based (e.g., Similac Advance) and soy-based (e.g., Isomil Advance) formulas is uncommon, it's good to know there is a trusted alternative.
Similac Alimentum Protein Hydrolysate Formula with Iron is recommended for infants with food allergies or colic due to protein sensitivity. Its protein is hydrolyzed, or broken down into smaller parts. That makes Alimentum easy to digest and less likely to cause an allergic reaction.
Most babies don't need a special formula like Alimentum. But, if the need is there, it's reassuring to know the makers of Similac have a formula to satisfy it. As with all feeding decisions during the first year, consult your health care professional.
