Tegaderm General Information
Tegaderm is a transparent dressing that is used for a variety of different medical situations and patient wounds. It is a product that is made from a polyurethane membrane that is thin, then it has an acrylic layer over the membrane. This type of dressing is often prescribed to a patient and used in medical situations where an individual has suffered from a minor burn, has a donor site, a post-operative wound, pressure areas, and various other injuries that include lacerations and abrasions. Tegaderm can also be used to cover a patient's skin and prevent it from being able to break down because of being continuously exposed to moisture or friction. Other situations that this type of medical dressing is used would include peripheral or central IV catheters that need to be retained. One of the benefits of this type of dressing is the fact that it is so easy to monitor wounds and catheter areas, giving individuals the opportunity to spot infection as quickly as possible. The transparency of Tegaderm also allows leakage of fluids to be seen easily. Wounds covered in this dressing are less likely to be contaminated because of how well it protects as a barrier.
