Acebutolol
Acebutolol is used to treat high blood pressure. It relaxes your blood vessels so your heart doesn't have to pump as hard. Acebutolol is also used to treat an irregular heartbeat. Acebutolol hydrochloride is a selective, hydrophilic beta-adrenoreceptor blocking agent with mild intrinsic sympathomimetic activity in treating patients with hypertension and ventricular arrhythmias. It is marketed in capsule form for oral administration. Acebutolol hydrochloride capsules are available in two strengths which contain 200 or 400 mg of acebutolol as the hydrochloride salt. The inactive ingredients are gelatin, methylparaben, povidone, pregelatinized starch, propylparaben, silicon dioxide, sodium lauryl sulfate, stearic acid, titanium dioxide, FD&C Blue #1, FD&C Red #40, D&C Yellow #10, D&C Red #28, FD&C Blue #2, and black iron oxide.

HypertensionThe usual initial dose for mild to moderate high blood pressure is 400 milligrams per day. It may be taken in a single daily dose or in 2 doses of 200 milligrams each. The usual daily dosage ranges from 200 to 800 milligrams. People with severe high blood pressure may take up to 1,200 milligrams per day divided into 2 doses. Acebutolol may be taken alone or in combination with another high blood pressure medication. Irregular heartbeatThe usual starting dosage is 400 milligrams per day divided into 2 doses. Your doctor may gradually increase the dose to 600 to 1,200 milligrams per day. If your doctor wants you to stop taking this medication, he or she will have you taper off over a period of 2 weeks.
CHILDREN The safety and effectiveness of Acebutolol have not been established in children.
OLDER ADULTS Your doctor will determine the dosage based on your particular needs. Do not take more than 800 milligrams per day.
