Dosage of Wellbutrin

Wellbutrin (Bupropion hydrochloride) is used in the treatment of major depression and works to balance the levels of dopamine and norepinephrine. Speak with your physician regarding all medications you are currently taking before starting a regimen of Wellbutrin. Make sure to include all prescription medications, over-the-counter medicines, and herbal remedies. Wellbutrin should not be given to anyone under 18 years old without the approval of a doctor. Wellbutrin should be taken at the same time every day; allow at least six hours between doses. It can be taken with or without food. Adults generally begin taking 200 mg, with 100 mg of Wellbutrin twice daily. Your doctor may elect to increase the dose to 300 mg, with 100 mg taken three times daily. The maximum daily dose of Wellbutrin is 450 mg. Exceeding this amount can lead to the onset of serious side effects, including seizures. Do not change the dosage or discontinue Wellbutrin without notifying your doctor. Wellbutrin tablets should not be chewed, crushed, or cut. If you inadvertently miss a dose, skip that dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed dose. If you are pregnant, or planning to become pregnant, or nursing; discuss the effect Wellbutrin could have on your child or your unborn baby with your doctor.
