This medication belongs to the statin class of drugs. This class of drugs works towards blocking the enzyme which is responsible for controlling the cholesterol production rate of the body. Lipitor is the brand name for atorvastatin calcium. It is basically a synthetic lipid lowering agent.
Lipitor tablets are strictly for oral administration. The tablets may contain 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg or 80 mg atorvastatin calcium. There are a number of inactive ingredients included in this medication. They include calcium carbonate, and candelilla wax. Lipitor is a medication that will need to be taken as prescribed in order to work effectively at lowering LDL cholesterol levels. The medication needs to be stored at controlled room temperature that is with the temperature being between 20°C and 25°C. The medication is manufactured by Pfizer Ireland Pharmaceuticals.
