Miacalcin is manufactured by Novartis Pharmaceuticals Inc. This medicine is a hormone used to treat Paget's disease of the bone. It is also used to treat high blood calcium levels. It may also be used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Bones are constantly being broken down and reformed. Miacalcin helps prevent osteoporosis by slowing the speed at which bones are broken down. Although studies have shown that Miacalcin increases bone mass in the spine, it's not known whether the drug helps prevent fractures caused by osteoporosis. When you use Miacalcin, it's also important to get enough calcium and vitamin D, and to exercise as directed by your doctor.

Why is Miacalcin prescribed?
Miacalcin is a synthetic form of calcitonin, a naturally occurring hormone produced by the thyroid gland. Miacalcin reduces the rate of calcium loss from bones. Since less calcium passes from the bones to the blood, Miacalcin also helps control blood calcium levels.
Miacalcin Nasal Spray is used to treat postmenopausal osteoporosis (bone loss occurring after menopause) in women who cannot or will not take estrogen.
