Motillium tablets and suppositories are used for stopping the feeling of sickness like nausea and vomiting. This medication can be used in both children and adults. Other symptoms like stomach discomfort, bloating, fullness and stomach content regurgitation can also be relieved with the help of this medication. The active ingredient used in Motillium is domperidone. This is basically a type of medication that is known as dopamine antagonist. This medication blocks the dopamine receptors that are found in the upper end of the human digestive system. Thus, the muscles at the entry to the stomach are tightened and those at the end of the stomach are relaxed. The action of food passage through the stomach is sped up. If you are not comfortable with taking the medication by mouth; you can use the suppositories. These are strictly for rectal use only. The domperidone in the suppositories are absorbed directly into the bloodstream. If you are taking the medication in the form of tablets; take it before meals only. Taking it after meals will slow down the action of the medication. The usual recommended dosage for this medication is a 10 mg tablet that needs to be taken up to 3-4 times daily. The medication dosage might be increased to 20 mg in severe cases.
