Robaxin General Information
Robaxin is used to treat short-term, pain "musculoskeletal conditions," such as muscle spasms due to an injury. This drug should be prescribed along with the combination of rest, physical therapy, and other treatments. Robaxin is chemically designated as 3-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1, 2-propanediol 1-carbamate and has the empirical formula C11H15NO5.
The active ingredient of this medicine has a molecular weight of 241.24. Methocarbamol, the active ingredient of Robaxin is white colored powder, partially water soluble and is also sparingly chloroform soluble. The powder is alcohol soluble (when heated) and soluble in propylene glycol. Methocarbamol is not soluble in n-hexane and benzene. This drug is available in form of capsules in the market.
Doses should strictly be according to the medical prescription. Usually this drug is taken three or four times daily. These tablets are film coated and light orange in color. They are round in shape and has ROBAXIN 500 imprinted on the side that is unscored. The other side has SP imprinted on it. Patients allergic to any of the ingredients available on the label should not continue using this drug. Patients suffering from severe kidney disorders, epilepsy and so on should always inform the doctor before consuming this medication. Robaxin is supplied in various strengths in the market. It should be stored at room temperature (20°C to 25°C).
