When Reactine is prescribed it is to help relieve the symptoms of allergies, this can include seasonal allergies or year round allergies, such as pet allergies. This medication is a second generation antihistamine that can relieve runny, stuffy, itching or burning nasal passages. It can also relieve the itchy throat, watery, itchy eyes and other symptoms that occur with allergies.
One of the other conditions this antihistamine can be prescribed to treat is hives, which are caused by an overload of histamine in the body. Reactine can be prescribed to take for allergies to dust, pollen, grass, mold, ragweed, and other sensitivities to the person that suffers from allergies. There are some people that cannot be prescribed this second generation antihistamine, due to allergic reactions to the ingredients, medications that are being taken or medical conditions. This can include people with high blood pressure, people with kidney disease or renal failure. It will be necessary for the physician to know any medical conditions, medications that are being taken, including medicines that are purchased over the counter. Women that are pregnant or breastfeeding should not be prescribed this antidepressant as it is not safe for the infant or unborn baby.
