Lovenox General Information

Lovenox is a prescription medication that is employed in the prevention and treatment of blood clotting. It is also used to treat people who have recently had a heart attack or are having angina trouble. The medication is strictly for subcutaneous injection and must not be used intravenously. The usual recommended dosage is once or twice every day. Lovenox is basically a heparin medication of low molecular weight. It resists the formation of new clots and also prevents the growth of the already existing ones. It binds to an enzyme called antithrombin III. Thus the activity of this enzyme is accelerated. This enzyme acts in the inhibition of the dual clotting factors called Xa and IIa. Lovenox, thus, reduces the formation of the clots. Generally, blood thinners break down clots. This is not the case with Lovenox. The medication works towards slowing down the speed of clot formation. Thus, the body is given a chance to naturally break down the existing clots. A 100mg/mL Concentration Lovenox Injection consists of 10 mg enoxaparin sodium. The 150 mg/mL Concentration of this medication consists of 15 mg enoxaparin sodium. This medication is free from any preservative and must be used as a single dose injection only.
