How to Take Paxil
Paxil should be taken exactly as your doctor prescribed. The amount of medicine and length of time taken should not be altered, unless changed by your doctor. Medical practitioners sometimes change prescription instructions to make sure their patient is receiving the most benefit from a prescribed medicine.
The tablet form of Paxil should always be swallowed whole, breaking or chewing causes too much of the drug to be released at once. Paxil tablets are a controlled-release drug, formulated to release medicine slowly into the body. Shake the liquid right before taking a dose and then measure very carefully using a marked measuring device or medicine cup. Directions should be followed diligently, with allowances made to maintain a timely dosage schedule.
If you miss a dose of Paxil, take one right away. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not try to make up for the missed dose.
If you have taken too much Paxil, seek emergency medical attention. Paxil can take up to four weeks to show an improvement in symptoms. If you do not see signs of improvement, keep taking Paxil and contact your doctor.
