How to Take Plavix
Plavix should be taking exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Dosage directions can be found on the prescription label. Unless the instructions are changed by your doctor, you should not take more than the prescribed amount or for a longer time than recommended.
Plavix can be taken with or without food and should be taken with a full glass of water.
If you miss a dose, take one as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the scheduled dose. Do not take a double amount to make up for the missed dose.
In the case of an overdose, seek emergency medical treatment at once. An overdose of Plavix can cause blood in the stool or vomitus, difficulty breathing, and exhaustion.
If you need dental work or surgery, inform your dentist or doctor ahead of time that you are currently using Plavix. You may need to discontinue the medicine five days prior to the procedure to prevent excessive bleeding. Do not discontinue Plavix without first speaking with your doctor. To get the most benefit from Plavix, use it regularly and get your prescription refilled before you run completely out of medication.
