Aerius General Information
Aerius is a medication that is used for the treatment of allergies. It belongs to a class of medications called antihistamines. The active ingredient in this medication is desloratadine. Its IUPAC name is 8-chloro-6, 11-dihydro-11-(4-piperdinylidene)- 5H-benzo[5,6]cyclohepta[1,2-b]pyridine. Its chemical formula is C19H19ClN2 and it has a molecular mass of 310.82. Aerius can be used to treat allergy symptoms like sneezing, itching, runny nose, nasal congestion, watery eyes. It can also be used to treat skin allergies characterized by rashes, itching and hives. The medication cones in the form of tablets and syrup. Each tablet contains 5 mg desloratadine. In addition to the active ingredient, there are excipients like carnauba wax, cornstarch, calcium phosphate dehydrate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, talc, titanium dioxide, and white beeswax. Aerius syrup is orange colored and pleasantly flavored. Each milliliter of the syrup contains 0.5 mg desloratadine. In addition, there are flavoring and coloring agents, anhydrous citric acid, disodium edetate, propylene glycol, purified water, sodium benzoate, sodium citrate dihydrate, sorbitol solution, and sucrose. There may be some side effects like dry mouth, nausea, and muscle pain associated with the use of this medication. Serious side effects must be reported to the doctor immediately.
