Aerius is used for the treatment of allergies. It belongs to a class of medications called antihistamines. Allergies occur when the body is extremely sensitive to a particular trigger, called an allergen. Common allergens include dust, dander, mites, mold spores, pollen. When the body is exposed to these allergens, it triggers an immune response, wherein the body produces large amounts of immunoglobin called IgE antibodies. Severe allergic reactions can result in breathing trouble, loss of consciousness, low blood pressure, swelling in the lips and joints, chest pain.
