Lactulose General Information

Lactulose is used to treat severe constipation. Every 15mL of the Lactulose Solution USP is made from 10g of Lactulose (along with galactose of less than 1.6g, lactose of less than 1.2g and fructose of equal to or less than 0.1g). It also comes with other agents like purified water, D&C Yellow No10, FD&C Yellow No6. Lactulose gets chemically described as 4-O-ß-D-galactopyranosyl-D-fructofuranose and the molecular weight is 342.30. It is also soluble in water. This drug is extremely effective in softening the stool. It is strictly recommended to consult a doctor before consuming this drug. Lactulose Solution (Oral/Rectal Solution), 10 g per 15mL is yellow colored, clear solution and is sold in a one pint or 473mL and two quart (1.89L) bottles. The solution is consisted of: 667mg Lactulose in every mL. Patients allergic to any of the active or inactive ingredients on the label should not use this medicine. Patients suffering from severe diabetes or any colon and rectum surgeries should definitely consult the doctor. Doses should be according to the medical prescription. Pregnant women and nursing mothers should always discuss with the healthcare provider before consuming this drug. Taking other medicines should also be informed to the doctor to avoid any interaction. Lactulose should be kept only at 25 degree Celsius; excursions are permitted at temperatures between 15 and 30°C. The container should be kept tightly closed.
