The starting dose for mild-to-moderately-active ulcerative colitis is two 400mg Asacol tablets three times in a day or total 2.4 g daily. The first dosing should be continued up to six weeks. Doctor may decrease your dose to Asacol 1600mg of four tablets in a day depending upon the response. You might take either one tablet four times daily and or two tablets twice daily. Asacol comes in tablet form and should be taken orally. This can be taken with or without food. If this bothers your stomach, try taking it with food. Asacol tablets are delayed-release and have a special coating. The tablet should not be cut, chewed, or crushed. For better results, medicine should be taken as prescribed by your health care provider. It will not work properly if you stop it without finishing your complete dose.
