How to Use Retin-A
Retin-A should be applied exactly as prescribed. Although, applying more or more often will not make it work any faster, it may increase the risk of side effects. Retin-A should only be used for the period of time recommended by your doctor; no longer.
Clean and dry the area of skin to be treated before using Retin-A, applying to wet skin may cause irritation. Hands should be washed thoroughly both before and after using the medicine. If using Renova, allow twenty minutes after washing before applying a thin application of the medication. Applying an excessive amount of Retin-A, may cause it to pill.
After applying Retin-A, wait at least one hour before washing the area or applying other products.
It may take several weeks of using Retin-A to notice improvement in your skin’s condition. Using Retin-A to treat acne may cause it to get worse when first applied. Contact your doctor if the irritation becomes severe or does not show signs of improvement within eight to twelve weeks. Skin may become more sensitive to many things including extreme weather, sunlight, tanning beds, and other skin care products. Retin-A should not be used on sunburned, windburned, or otherwise irritated skin.
