Levoxyl Genral Information
Levoxyl is made from synthetic crystalline L-3, 3, 5, 5- tetraiodothyronine sodium salt [levothyroxine (T4) sodium]. Function of SyntheticT4 is same as the naturally produced hormone in thyroid glands of humans. Levothyroxine (T4) sodium, which is the active ingredient of this medicine, has C15H10I4N NaO4H2O as its empirical formula; its molecular weight comes as: 798.86g/mol (anhydrous). The inactive ingredients are croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate and microcrystalline cellulose. This drug is extremely effective in preventing and treating hypothyroidism and pituitary TSH suppression. It helps the inactive thyroid tissue and gland function. Levoxyl should be taken in the morning on an empty stomach, at least one-half hour before any meal. Doses should be strictly according to the medical prescription. Patients taking other medication should inform the medical practitioner to avoid any interactions. This drug is supplied in form of tablets in the market. It is strictly recommended that pregnant women and nursing women should consult with the doctor before consuming this medicine. Levoxyl is available in several different strengths in the market.
