How to Take Vigabatrin
Vigabatrin is intended for oral administration only. Vigabatrin can be taken irrespective of the food intake by the patient. The initial recommended dosage of this medication is 1 g per day. In few patients with severe seizures disorders may be recommended for an initial dosage of 2 g per day. The daily dosage of this medication can be increased or decreased depending on the effectiveness and the side effects of this medication.
The increments of the dosage can be in 0.5 g per day by the health care provider with the advancement of this medication. You should never alter or adjust the recommended dosages without the prior permission from your health care provider. The maximum allowed dosage of this medication ranges in between 2 to 4 g per day. Dosages beyond 4 g per day have shown no significant improvement in the condition. The frequency of the adverse reactions increases with this high dosage. For children, the initial recommended dosage of this medication is 40 mg per Kg per day. The maximum allowed dosage of Vigabatrin in children ranges in between 80 to 100 mg per Kg per day. In children, the medication can be given starting at 0.5 g per day. This dosage can be increased in the increments of 0.5 g per day. The increment of the dosages should be done in the intervals of 7 days.
