How to Take Zetia
Zetia should be taken as prescribed. Medication directions will be on your prescription label. It needs to be taken exactly as recommended by your doctor. Do not take a larger quantity of medicine or for a longer time than recommended.
Zetia is typically taken once a day and may be taken with or without food. A regular schedule of doses should be maintained to receive the full benefit of the drug. It is not unusual for Zetia to take up to two weeks before you notice signs of improvement in your cholesterol level. Your doctor will monitor cholesterol levels through blood testing at regular intervals during your treatment.
Not all cholesterol medicines can be taken at the same time. Zetia cannot be taken at the same time as some cholesterol medications including Prevalite, Questran, Colestid, or Welchol. After taking any of these medicines, wait four hours before taking Zetia or take Zetia two hours prior to taking any of these medications.
Zetia may be taken at the same time as Antara, Lescol, Lipitor, Lipofen, Lofibra, Mevacor, Pravachol, TriCor, Triglide, or Zocor. To receive the most benefit from Zetia, you will need to follow a regular routine of exercise and maintain a healthy diet throughout your treatment regimen.
