Protonix belongs to the family of drugs classified as the proton pump inhibitors or PPI. It is mainly used for the treatment of disorders of the esophagus and the stomach. The conditions treated by Protonix include: erosive esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and acid reflux.
Protonix works efficiently against these disorders by blocking the production of acids in the stomach.
