Yasmin is a combination birth control pill containing progesterone and estrogen. It may also be prescribed for other conditions, to be determined by a doctor.
Yasmin prevents pregnancy by stopping ovulation (maturation and release of eggs from the ovaries). It can also prevent pregnancy by altering cervical mucous, making it more complicated for sperm to enter the uterus. Yasmin can alter the lining of the uterus, thus making it less receptive to an embryo.
Each package of Yasmin contains twenty-eight tablets. They must be taken in order. It is extremely important to take Yasmin at the same time every day. When you finish a package, start a new pack right away. Yasmin must be taken as prescribed in order for it to work.
If any pills are missed, you may need to use a backup source of contraception; such as condoms. You will need to use the backup method for seven days. There is only one standard dose of Yasmin, despite age, medical condition, or weight of the patient. Side effects can occur with the use of Yasmin, although not everyone will experience anything adverse. In most cases if any sign of an adverse reaction occurs, it is generally minor.
