Yasmin General Information
Yasmin (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) is used in the prevention of pregnancy, unless prescribed by your doctor for another medical condition. Yasmin is an estrogen and progesterone blended birth control pill. It thickens mucus in the cervix and changes the lining of the uterus, thus preventing ovulation (release of an egg from an ovary).
Yasmin can be used to treat symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). These symptoms include anxiousness, appetite changes, depression, headaches, joint pain, lethargy, sleep disorders, and weight gain.
Yasmin is sometimes used to treat moderate cases of acne exhibited by women who are at least fourteen years old and have started their menstrual period.
Do not use Yasmin, if you are pregnant or if you are breast-feeding a baby. Yasmin can cause birth defects; and is capable of passing into breast milk, possibly harming a nursing infant. It can also slow down the production of breast milk.
Before beginning a regimen of Yasmin, discuss any medical conditions with your doctor, especially adrenal gland disorders, kidney disease, and liver disease, as well as, other medical conditions for which you are receiving treatment. Make sure your doctor is aware of any medications you are taking, including medicines prescribed by other doctors, over-the-counter medications, minerals, herbal products, and vitamins.
