How to Take Yasmin
Take Yasmin exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is generally taken on the first day of your period or on the first Sunday after your period begins, unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor. Missing a dose of Yasmin increases your risk of becoming pregnant. In some instances another method of birth control may decrease the risk.
Take one pill every twenty-four hours and get your prescription refilled before you completely run out of pills. Regular medical visits will be necessary while you are using Yasmin. During this time you will need to do a monthly self-examination of your breasts to check for lumps.
If you have inadvertently taken too much Yasmin, seek emergency medical assistance. Symptoms of a Yasmin overdose include nausea, vaginal bleeding, or vomiting.
Refrain from smoking while you are taking Yasmin, especially if you are over thirty-five years old. Smoking can increase the risk of strokes, heart attacks, and blood clots. Yasmin will not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases; use a condom for protection. Yasmin may cause breakthrough bleeding. Contact your doctor if the bleeding continues or becomes heavy. You may need to discontinue Yasmin if you need surgery, diagnostic testing, or will be on bed rest.
