Evista General Information
Evista is classified as estrogen agonist / antagonist, which is called as SERM or selective estrogen receptor modulator. It is included in the compound class called benzothiophene. Chemically, Evista gets represented chemically as: methanone, [6-hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxyphenyl) benzo[b]thien-3-yl]-[4-[2-(1-piperidinyl) ethoxy] phenyl]-, hydrochloride. Its empirical formula of the active ingredient Raloxifene hydrochloride comes as: C28H27NO4SHCl and the molecular weight comes as 510.05. This medication is used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. It helps in reducing the risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women and the risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. Evista is supplied in the form of tablets and each of it comes with 60mg raloxifene HCl, which is the molar equivalent of 55.71 mg of free base. The inactive ingredients are anhydrous lactose, carnauba wax, crospovidone, FD&C Blue No2 Aluminum Lake, magnesium stearate, lactose monohydrate, hypromellose, modified pharmaceutical glaze, povidone, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate80, titanium dioxide and propylene glycol. Evista 60 mg tablets are white, film coated and elliptical, in shape. Doses should be taken strictly according to the medical prescription. Patients suffering from deep vein thrombosis, Congestive heart failure, liver and kidney disorders should inform the healthcare provider. Pregnant women and nursing mothers should also discuss it with the doctor before consuming the drug.
