Synvisc General Information
Synvisc (hylan G-F20) is used to treat osteoarthritis and knee arthritis. It is basically an elastoviscous high molecular weight fluid containing hylan A and hylan. It is injected directly into the knee to lubricate the joints.
The treatment or the course needs to be completed even if the patient feels better. Sealed packets should always be used. Doses should be strictly according to the medical prescription and also under medical guidance. Consumption of any other medicines for any other disease should be disclosed to the doctor so that there isn't any drug interaction. Patients suffering from swollen leg, ankle, infection in or around the knee should inform the healthcare provider. Patients allergic to any of the ingredients on the label should not use this drug at all. Pregnant women and nursing mothers should discuss the same with the doctor to avoid any further complications. Synvisc is available in a glass syringe of 2.25mL having a 2mL (or 16mg) dosage of hylan G-F20. The syringe has contents that are nonpyrogenic and sterile. This drug should be stored at room temperature below 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) away from light and moisture. This process if injection should not be tried without any medical guidance.
