Side Effects of Vetmedin
Vetmedin is prescribed to help increase the output of the heart, bringing about a decrease in the amount of pressure placed upon it.
Like all drugs Vetmedin can cause side effects in some dogs. Various reactions can occur; some will be mild, while others can be more severe, requiring immediate veterinary care. Side effects more commonly seen with the use of Vetmedin include: sudden diarrhea, vomiting, inappetance, neurological problems, shortness of breath, or overall weakness. Even though considered to be minor reactions to Vetmedin, if they continue or appear to grow worse; seek veterinary medical attention.
Fainting, lack of coordination, labored breathing, and weakness are sometimes seen as reactions to Vetmedin. An accumulation of fluid in the abdomen or chest can be serious, requiring emergency treatment.
The age, weight, and extent of heart failure can increase the risk for a dog to sustain side effects after using Vetmedin. Various drugs can interact with Vetmedin. Inform your veterinary care provider of any over-the-counter medicines or herbal products your dog is currently taking prior to starting a regimen of Vetmedin. If your dog exhibits any adverse signs or anything considered out of the ordinary after taking Vetmedin, consult your veterinarian.
